WHEN YOU'RE DESTINED FOR BIGGER THINGS...

About Big Man Clothing

Somewhere around 1984, Tim left school and began working in Rex’s shop: Economic Menswear. Some of you may still recall this earlier shop name. You may have dealt with Tim on a number of occasions over the years.  It goes without saying then that Tim has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the business of plus size men’s clothing.

In 2003, after Thorpe’s pharmacy closed down next door, Rex took over their lease and expanded the plus size menswear shop.  Economic Menswear underwent a big transformation, doubling in size.  The move allowed this big size clothing business to thrive.

Many of our customers referred to the shop as the ‘Big Man’ shop, so the name Big Man Menswear was introduced.  2003 was the beginning of a new era for the shop with a bigger store, a new name, new staff and babies arriving!

In 2008, after running the shop for over 30 years, Rex retired. This allowed Tim and his wife Pamela to realise their dream of owning the shop. In December 2008, Big Man Clothing was born.

The Big Man Clothing Family

Tim

Tim loves his Holdens and doesn’t do much in the weekends if the V8 racing is on TV!  One day, he wants to go to Bathurst with his father. Tim also enjoys a round of golf now and again.  In the summer time, we do a spot of camping at Martins Bay.  As a child, Tim used to go every year with his family.  We rediscovered Martins Bay when our son Thomas was just a wee tot, and we’ve been going back ever since.

Aaron
Aaron
Aaron is our young gun and he’s into all the internet chat things like Facebook and all that cyber stuff.  He also enjoys playing the guitar and recently bought a banjo.  He plays soccer, indoor soccer and follows both rugby codes.  He goes to the odd game at Eden Park and tries to get across the Tasman to an Origins game each year with some friends.  Aaron is an asset to our little team and we hope that he will be with us for quite some time yet.

Andrew

Our part-timer Andrew, is a university student when he’s not working for us.  He's a bit of a bright spark and even got to go to NASA when he was at college!  Unfortunately Andrew's time with us is nearly at an end as he is finishing his studies and has taken up full time work elsewhere. He will be helping us out over the Christmas period though.

Trevor
Trev is Tim's dad and since retiring is now working for us part time.  He helps out wherever needed and is great to have on hand on occasions when Tim wants some time to attend the kids school activities and sports days.  Trev also enjoys motor racing and rugby and he and Tim go to a game or head off to the racing now and again.

Pam
Pam plays an active part in the business behind the scenes. She manages this in between running around after two young children, school, after school activities, and being actively involved on the Board of Trustees, along with trying to run the household and find some time for herself.  Sometimes you might see her out at the shop, but she’ll usually be in the office, keeping the boys in order!

Tim, Aaron, Andrew and Trevor will be looking after you in store as they are the experts in this area!

The future of Big Man Clothing

So that’s a little bit about us and how we started our big size menswear shop. We have a lot of ideas of where we want the business to go and how to improve on what we already have.  Some of these ideas will take some time and others we hope will take off sooner.

Nov 2010
It is nearly two years since we bought the business and it has been a busy time.  We thought we would settle into things and then start making some changes.  Well it was only a matter of months after we took over that we decided to start work on the new website.  It took several months working with Solutionists in designing and building and then getting all the photographs done for the products and loading these up.  In October 2009 we launched the new website with the shopping cart and we haven't looked back!

Then it was only a few months after this we began talking with people about putting in a new till and stock control system that would integrate with the website.  In April 2010 we finally put this in place.  After a few ups and downs with adapting to new technology and settling in, everything is now working well together and it certainly make managing the website stock much easier.

So for now we are having a break from anymore technological advances ...  Our focus for 2011 will be on products and marketing, and as always giving you great service.
